If Party and Beaches are your only idea of Goa, then you have been missing out on some great places in this beautiful state. Here we will talk about some less visited places which may bring great diversity to the tourist map of Goa, without going anywhere near the sea.

1. Old Goan Churches

The Old Catholic Basilicas and Cathedrals of Goa are a precious look into the past with their unique look and feel. The Se Cathedral and Basilica Bom Jesus get the bulk of the tourists. Others churches include the Church of St-Augustine, Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Church of St. Cajetan and Chapel of St. Francis Xavier. There are notable Cathedrals in Margao and Vasco De Gama as well.

2. Ponda

Ponda is the Hindu heart of Goa, the center of traditional art, music, dance and architecture of Goa that created its own identity, different from the one given by the Portuguese. It is famous for its 5 temples dedicated to Lord Mangesh, Lord Nagesh, Lord Ganapati, Lord Ramnath and Goddesses Mhalasa; and is home to the biggest mosque in Goa.

3. Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary

Earlier known as Mollem Game, this park with an area of more than 240 sq. km happens to be the largest wildlife sanctuary in Goa. Nestled in the Western Ghats, it is home to pristine greenery and forests nestled in different altitude points with a great wildlife variety. It is also home to the Dudhsagar Falls and Kadamba Temple.

4. Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary

Named after the famous ornithologist, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a paradise of bird watchers. The sanctuary is located in the Charao Island, covered with a thick mangrove forest that is usually a natural nesting ground of birds.

5. Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary

Located in the eastern part of Goa, Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is the latest addition to wildlife sanctuaries in the state. With a large variety of biodiverse forests, the sanctuary is home to many exotic species wildlife, like the black panther, the great pied hornbill and giant squirrels. They also have the Savari Waterfall in its backyard.

6. Goa Chitra

Goa Chitra is an ethnographic museum in Benaulim. A reflection of the Goan culture, it showcases the lifestyle of the native people of Goa, their art, music and crafts. The museum has more than 4000 artefacts on display.

7. Caves

The Western Ghats blessed Goa with an interesting landscape. The Avalem, Lamgau and Rivona Caves have many legends associated with them and can be a great day trip experience!

8. Tambadi Surla Temple:

Carved from black soapstone, this 12th century Shaivaite temple is the only surviving memory of the Kadamba dynasty. Intricate carvings reminiscent of the Jain temples and bas-reliefs depicting Gods and Goddesses are the main features of this temple.
